KUALA LUMPUR: A recent discussion on the country’s economy, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, has garnered significant attention.
The purpose of the discussion, described by Anwar as part of the Unity Government’s ongoing efforts, was to gather ideas and perspectives from various sectors regarding the nation’s economic direction.
While Khairy Jamaluddin’s specific role during the discussion remains unclear, his presence has sparked curiosity among observers.
Alongside him, former finance minister II, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, was also in attendance.
In a Facebook post last night, the prime minister expressed gratitude for the fruitful discussion.
Anwar said: “Alhamdulillah, this evening (June 16), I had a discussion concerning the direction of the country’s economy together with economists, Datuk Seri Johari Ghani, and saudara Khairy Jamaluddin.”
Also present were Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood @ Johan Mahmood Merican and Economy Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Nor Azmie Diron.
Anwar highlighted that the discussion revolved around exploring new avenues for growth and enhancing the investment ecosystem.
He said the views and opinions shared during the session would contribute to shaping the Madani economic narrative, which aims to chart the nation’s economic trajectory in the medium and long term.
Recognising the urgency of addressing existing economic challenges, Anwar emphasised the limited time available to find solutions and set Malaysia on the right path.
He acknowledged that reforms and improvements require discipline, patience, confidence, and bravery to implement novel approaches that benefit the people and the country.
Undeterred, the unity government is committed to fostering inclusive and sustainable growth.
Anwar stressed that economic progress should not be reduced to mere figures but must consider the population’s needs and aspirations.
