KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani wants Malaysians to put aside their political affiliations and focus on finding ways to improve the nation’s food security, education levels and ensure job opportunities for struggling Malaysians.
The MP for Titiwangsa said in order to do so everyone must put aside their differences and focus on ensuring Malaysia’s political landscape is stable for the future generations.
Johari, a former finance minister, also said the Malaysian economy must be capable of bringing in lots of foreign investments and the only way to achieve this is by improving investor confidence in Malaysia’s capability.
“Be it direct domestic investment or foreign direct investments, we must find a way to increase this. How we do it is by relying on businessmen who are capable and credible with expertise in their industries.
“They will in turn create jobs for the people and we as the government will tax them for the fruits of their labour. This is one way to generate income for the government.
“However, for all this to work the government must provide political stability. Second, the government must have integrity and credibility and the third and crucial point is a government must be seen as competent and experienced in governing,” he said today during the inaugural National Unity Government Convention at World Trade Centre today.
Johari said if Malaysia wants to impress investors from overseas the education system must be improved.
“It does not matter who is in the B40, M40 or T20 group. All would need food and all would want the quality of education to be on par with the best in the world and it must be current as well.
“This will give Malaysians a chance to find better jobs resulting in a sharp improvement in their quality of life,” he said.
